Apple iOS Gains Market Share…

16 Jan

Apple is undoubtedly the best brand available in the market, but in the past years we have a seen a remarkable growth by other smartphones like Android, Windows and Blackberry. The recent reports state that Apple iOS is giving a tough competition to Google’s Android, which happens to be the leading smartphone in the market.

Analysts also say, Apple’s market share shot up following the release of iPhone 4S to 43% from 26% when compared to all smartphones sales in the last quarter (October 2011 – November 2011). Though Android retained its lead, it lost the market share by the end of the year dropping to 47% from 60% during the last quarter.

Blackberry and Windows mobile seem to have left behind in the race, with Apple and Android battling their way for the Top Slot. According to NPD, the battle for the smartphone market share is now “a 2-horse race”.

The third spot is taken by Blackberry; its market share has continually dropped from 13% in the first quarter to 6% in the last quarter. Windows mobile and Windows Phone 7 by Microsoft have accounted about 1% market share towards the end of the year.

Consumers and users from across the globe are increasingly picking up smartphones over the basic phone models. The smartphone market share has rose to 67% in October and November from just 50%.

The research analysts say that Apple dominated sales after the successful launch of iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and 3GS, taking the top three slots respectively. Apple conquered more than 50% of the smartphone market in the previous years and we hope it will continue its reign in the coming years too.
